TOPIC!
This months conversation cafe will be about Access & Inclusion.
Taking a look at what access and inclusion needs, barriers, requirements disabled people have. What could be done to alleviate those and help to make it a more accessible and inclusive community.
For this topic (and all future topics) we are going to be using the UNCPRD definition of disability:
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) says that disability includes long‑term mental health conditions and other psychosocial disabilities. It’s not just about someone’s body, it’s about the barriers people face in daily life.
When things like stigma, systems, or attitudes get in the way, it can make it harder for people to take part in their communities on an equal basis with others. That’s what the UNCRPD is designed to protect against.
Everyone’s experience of disability is different. Culture, age, gender, and life experiences all shape how people move through the world. For many of us with lived experience of mental distress or trauma, those layers can add extra challenges.
At Balance, we stand with all disabled people, including those with psychosocial disabilities, and we support the full recognition of these rights.
