How do you make real progress on homelessness? In Walla Walla County, the answer has been collaboration.
And how do people discover what’s working in their backyards? At Northwest Public Broadcasting, the answer is solutions journalism, a style of reporting that examines how communities are responding to challenges.
Join us for Portraits of the Housed, a free open house event in Walla Walla that will explore both of these topics. It’s hosted by NWPB as part of our work with Solutions Journalism Network, a nonprofit that helps news organizations report on the ways communities are solving problems — and what others can learn from their successes or failures.
At the reception, you’ll see portraits of Walla Walla residents who previously experienced homelessness. These photos, taken by NWPB’s Annie Warren, capture individuals not in crisis, but in calm — surrounded by their belongings, their pets and the spaces they now call home.
You’ll learn more about solutions journalism and our reporting process from NWPB staffers, including:
Susan Shain | Walla Walla Community Reporter
Jenna Dennison | News Editor
Annie Warren | Photographer and Director of Content
Tracci Dial | News Director
