Waka Tūpāpaku Weaving workshop

Waka tūpāpaku - Death Shroud
What is involved in weaving a waka tūpāpaku? How can we support whanau going through the deathing process. Deathing is a normal part of life, just like birthing, and we can help ourselves, friends and whanau by learning and by being prepared, just like we can prepare for a birth.
This workshop is more than a weaving workshop. We will discuss the different ways we have experienced tangi and what are the choices that we get decide on.
Friday 12 pm, Whanaungatanga:
Please bring a shared kai.
We will start with preparing the harakeke.
Saturday 9 am, Waka Tūpāpaku Raranga Harakeke
Together we will weave a waka tūpāpaku.
Generally, weavers can start weaving and non-weavers can carry on making taura - ropes and whakarite te whenu - prepare the weaving strips.
Sunday we will have a blessing and a discussion around tangihanga - funerals, tikanga - customs and how to preserve a tūpāpaku - body without embalming.
The cost is $200 per person
