Put this money to work:
I love the parable of the minas in the Bible.
It has so many layers to it.
Both as a Christian and the way we live life, ministry and the way we go about it … and business – how we steward it.
But here is the thing about business …
It is ridiculously easy to start a business based on the fact that you are good and passionate about whatever it is that you do.
But what they don’t tell you is the skillset you need to run and build the business.
That doesn’t come with the business registration kit!!!
In the parable of the minas, the master calls ten of his servants and gives them a mina each … and then he says: “put this money to work until I return”.
When God gives you an idea to start a business … this same command is implied: “put this business to work until I return”.
A good steward takes the time to learn the ropes of stewarding what has been put in their hands the best they can.
They don’t wing it.
They are diligent and they upskill themselves to steward what is in their hands to the point that they will one day hear: “well done, good and faithful servant”.
When it comes to business, there are way too many people who end up throwing the towel in for a variety of reasons, and not limited to:
It gets too hard and stressful.
The money runs out.
Not enough customers.
Yet with the right education at the right time these same reasons can be turned into:
Seamless and peaceful.
Surplus cashflow.
The right customers at the right time.
And whether you like it or not, God blesses what you steward, and he multiplies what you steward well.
One thing I have witnessed countless times in every type of industry and business over the last 38 years in commerce and business is this:
A lack of business financial literacy.
Why?
Perhaps it was never taught (or taught properly).
Perhaps you were never good with numbers, so it’s easier to ignore.
Perhaps the financial side seams like some dark mystery box.
Perhaps it’s easier to focus on stuff you already know and understand and hope the financial stuff just works out somehow.
