Join us to watch the 75-minute documentary Farming While Black, an award-winning film focused on the rising generation of young Black farmers, featuring Leah Penniman from Soul Fire Farm, author of “Farming While Black." Before the film screening, chat with your fellow farmers & food system supporters while enjoying dinner & refreshments! Then after the film, stick around for discussion & a farmer mixer.
This event is hosted by the Real Organic Project, in partnership with FairShare CSA Coalition, Marbleseed, & Midwest TOPP, with support from the Midwest Vegetable Growers Network. Thanks to The Commons Community & Arts Center for sharing their space for this event.
The filmmakers' goal is to reconnect Black farmers & land stewards to their Afro-Indigenous regenerative agricultural roots, to not only heal, but find strength & inspiration in land; & in turn change the food system to be more just, healthy & climate resilient. Donations collected from this event will be given to Soul Fire Farm in support of furthering this goal.
