Cuts have been made for the 2025-26 school year and now is the time to come together as a community to advocate for the future of music in the district.

With over 40 years as a music educator, Dr. John Benham began saving school music programs in 1981. Since then, he has worked with over 400 school districts across North America.

In addition to teaching, he has held roles in business and educational administration, including two terms as a public school board member. His “reverse economics” approach shows the financial benefits of strong music programs, and he explains complex issues clearly to educators, communities, and school boards alike. He is also the author of Music Advocacy: Moving from Survival to Vision (GIA Publications, 2016).

His methods have helped local music coalitions prevent or restore more than $88 million in cuts, saving over 1,000 teaching positions and impacting over 500,000 students.
