Join us for a casual gallery talk exploring Duke Riley: O’er the Wide and Plastic Sea led by Museum Deputy Director, Director of Education & Engagement Truly Matthews and guest speaker Christina Trapani, program director of Clean Virginia Waterways.

Mugs for sale! At this Coffee + Conversation, purchase a handmade mug made by local members of the Ceramic Designers Association of Virginia. Mugs will be sold for $20 each and all proceeds will go to support Virginia MOCA education programs.

Christina Trapani is the Program Director of Clean Virginia Waterways and the owner of Eco Maniac Company. She spent over a decade responding to sea turtle and marine mammal strandings at the Virginia Aquarium, and in 2002, she led her first International Coastal Cleanup with Clean Virginia Waterways, marking the beginning of her long-term commitment to tackling marine debris. Since then, Christina has helped lead statewide efforts to reduce plastic pollution, including a balloon litter study, a marine debris monitoring program, and the Keep It Beachy Clean campaign. She also co-founded the Virginia Plastic Pollution Prevention Network and played a key role in the successful effort to ban balloon releases in Virginia. In 2024, she stepped into the role of Program Director. Today, she co-leads the Virginia Marine Debris Reduction Plan and serves as the state’s coordinator for the International Coastal Cleanup, working with communities across the Commonwealth to protect our waterways.
