About the event

"Wounded Environment" by Martyna Plioplytė-Zujienė

From August 29 we invite you to visit the UMI Gallery (Užupio st. 2A) for the newly opened exhibition "Wounded Environment" by interdisciplinary artist Martyna Plioplytė-Zujienė.

The exhibition aims to refine the connection between personal experience (family memories summers on the coast) and collective responsibility. Between visible plastic and invisible biochemical changes that ultimately shape the future of the entire ecosystem.

The Baltic Sea and the aquarium are at the epicenter of the exhibition becoming not only a landscape or a backdrop for memories but also as a signal. It is a threshold between everyday life and systemic change: water in which microplastics and increased levels of nitrogen and phosphorus accumulate no longer fits into an aesthetic frame – it becomes a visible and audible expression of social responsibility.

At the exhibition we invite you to observe count and act drawing on your personal experiences and memories: an aesthetic encounter with pollution can be the beginning of change and the experience of art can be not only an inspiration but also a call to action here and now.

Martyna Plioplytė–Zujienė is an artist who completed a master's degree in textile art and design at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. a resident of the Užupis Art Incubator a member of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists' Union and since 2022 she has been actively participating in artistic activities in Lithuania and abroad presenting her work at international art festivals. Her work combines ecological responsibility the search for spiritual sustainability and collective memory exploring how personal histories intersect with global environmental issues.

The official opening of the exhibition will take place on September 3 at 6 p.m.

We invite you to visit until September 26 during the UMI Gallery's opening hours: III-VI 1–6 p.m.
