"You are not surprised at the force of the storm— you have seen it growing…. Be Earth Now." ~Rainer Maria Rilke
As we experience the force of the storm and unraveling of political, ecological and institutional systems, our loyalties, our commitments, our vows are being questioned and tested. The force of the storm invites us to inhabit our ecological selves and ask: Who are we and what is ours to do? As we know ourselves as part of the larger web of life, we can choose to put our attention on gratitude and be Earth now. We were made for these times—not as separate selves but in community with the ancestors, the future ones, the more than human world, and each other.
Using the Spiral of the Work that Reconnects, experiential practices, soul work, poetry and song, we will collectively re/imagine how we might respond to our immensely challenging times.

ABOUT ANNE and TERRY: Anne and Terry are the co-founders of Canticle Farm, located in East Oakland. Inspired by the life of Francis of Assisi, and Joanna Macy’s body of work, Canticle Farm is a community providing a platform for the Great Turning, one heart, one home, and one block at a time. Experimenting at the intersection of faith-based, social justice-based and Earth-based nonviolent activism, Canticle Farm manifests this commitment by engaging in several practices to bring healing to the trauma causing the divides of race, class, gender, age and religion, These include the Work That Reconnects, integral nonviolence, Nonviolent Communication, gift economy, restorative justice practices, and other disciplines necessary for regenerating community in the 21st Century.
Anne is a founding member of Nevada Desert Experience and the Oakland Catholic Worker. She has long served as Joanna Macy’s executive assistant. A seasoned facilitator of The Work That Reconnects, she has been involved in work for justice, peace, nuclear disarmament, nonviolence, and ecological sustainability for more than 40 years.
Terry earned his Master of Divinity degree at the Franciscan School of Theology and a law degree from UC Hastings. He has facilitated Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects, participated as a teaching elder with a men’s group, and serves on the Board of St. Anthony Foundation. He has worked with Bill Plotkin and Jade Sherer of Animas Valley Institute. Anne and Terry are the parents of five children and three grandchildren.
