Description: The Southern Cultural Heritage Center presents “Basket Weaving 101” with Amy Erwin on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 5:30pm.

In Basket Weaving 101, learn the wonderful and practical art of basket weaving. In this first class, we learn the basics of basket weaving using the twining technique and round reed. The twining technique has been used since ancient times, with the earliest examples found in ancient Egypt and carbon dated to 12,000 yrs ago. The Native Americans have also used this technique to make some of the most beautiful baskets. Students will be guided step by step to create a lovely basket of their very own. Although this class is designed for beginners, basket makers at any level are welcome.

This class will be held in the SCHC Academy building. The fee is $45/person, but only $40/SCHF Members and includes all supplies. For member pricing, please call 601-631-2997. The deadline to register is Friday, April 25, 2025.
