Visual Effects Summer Program

Over two weeks, participants will dive into Nuke, the industry-standard software used in today’s top film and TV productions. This hands-on, project-based workshop introduces students to the core techniques of visual effects compositing, from foundational tools to integrating elements into real footage.

Through guided instruction and practical labs, each participant will complete a personalized VFX shot by the end of the program, choosing from:

• Muzzle Flashes: Add firepower to a scene using layering, lighting, and timing
• Screen Burn-Ins: Replace on-screen content with custom graphics and effects

Info: Participants will be introduced to Nuke and its user interface, learning how to navigate node-based workflows and use key tools such as Merge, Color Correct, and Blur. The week includes hands-on training in roto techniques, foundational tracking methods (1-point, 2-point, 4-point, and planar tracking), and the use of Merge and masking tools. Students will apply their skills in a tracking lab using a live-action plate, explore the Paint tool through guided exercises, and wrap up with lighting and color correction practice on a muzzle flash sequence.

Info: Students will choose and begin a final project, either a muzzle flash or a screen burn-in shot. They’ll plan and research the necessary elements, then apply tracking, roto, paint, and color correction techniques to integrate assets into their footage. Throughout the week, they’ll refine their shots with instructor feedback during dedicated lab time, and conclude the program by presenting their completed work.
