Mike Bacon left us to ride free in the heavens on July 4, after a valiant fight with cancer. His family would like to invite all of his friends to come and remember him on Sunday, August 3, beginning at 10 AM, at Chilao School.
There will be food and (non-alcoholic) beverages. The gathering will be potluck style, so you are welcome to bring something if you like, but it is not required.
The school has ample cork boards and chalk boards. If you have pictures of Mike to share, please bring them. We would love to display them.
Chilao School is not very far away from Newcomb's Ranch. We are located in the back of Chilao Campground, across the road from the fire station. We are roughly a mile and half in from the highway, and there are two ways to get back here; the entrance to Chilao Picnic Area which is literally just below Newcomb's Ranch, or the main campground entrance, at mile 49.70.
If you aren't familiar with the neighborhood, which was one of Mike's favorite places, Chilao is located in the heart of the Angeles National Forest, accessible from Highway 2, Angeles Crest Highway. From the 210 freeway in La Canada, take Angeles Crest Highway north into the mountains. You will be starting out in mile 26, and leaving the highway to enter the campground in mile 49.70. There are mile markers all along the highway. Please be sure you have ample gasoline - there are no service stations up here. (We can help you out with battery power thanks the EMC2 club).
We just learned of Mike's passing on Saturday, July 19, so this is still a little raw and emotional for us. Mike was a gentle man, a beautiful soul, and I always longed for the time when we would get to see each other again. Here. On this plane of existence. We are honored to be able to take part in his remembrance.
This gathering will be funded by contributions to the donation basket at Chilao School on the day of the gathering. We very much hope you can join us.
