Horse Thief Mile is a fun and challenging asphalt course that emulates canyon riding conditions. It is full of twists, turns and elevation changes. The surface is similar to our local canyons. We run the track clockwise and we utilize the chicane near the start of the course, meaning you will navigate something like 13 or 14 turns each time around the track.
We start to line up for tech inspection in the 7 AM hour, have a rider's meeting in the 8 AM hour, and A group is on the track at 9 AM. We run A, B and C groups, twenty minutes sessions, beginning on the hour from 9 AM to 5 PM. We do not break for lunch. We have water, sport drinks and usually a variety of things to eat to make sure no one gets too thirsty or too hungry. Willow Springs Cafe is also available, down the hill by the main entrance.
You need a complete leather or textile one or two piece zip-together riding suit, calf high motorcycle boots, full face helmet (modular is acceptable, motocross style is acceptable) and gauntlet gloves. We are aware that other track day providers may be more lenient with gear requirements. We are adhering to the guidelines set forth by Willow Springs.
Your $150.00 fee pays for one rider. Multiple bikes are fine. Fire-breathing leader bikes will find this track a bit small for stretching their legs. Very small bikes will need enough horsepower to get up at least one pretty steep grade.
This is not a race. This is a fun day and a learning day. C group riders can have mentoring and one on one support at no additional cost if they choose to have it. Horse Thief Mile is an excellent course to practice braking, turning, accelerating, identifying apexes and getting comfortable with your bike. If you are already an accomplished rider, it's a ton of fun...but it's still a technical course. If you've never been on the track before, you may want to ride the first session at a reserved pace while you get to know each other.
You can change groups during the day, in whatever direction you choose. Just roll through tech inspection first so we know what group you will be riding in.
