Northwest Indiana Rusty Strings Community Orchestra presents: ’Tis the Season
The Northwest Indiana Rusty Strings Community Orchestra under the direction of Carrie Ann Carlson proudly presents two free Holiday Concerts titled “’Tis the Season” on Saturday, December 6th, 2025. The first concert will begin at 2:00 p.m. (CT) at Pines Village Retirement Community, 3303 Pines Village Circle, Valparaiso, IN. A second concert will follow at 6:00 p.m. (CT) at Anderson’s Winery and Vineyard, 430 E U.S. Hwy 6, Valparaiso, IN. Food and beverages are available at Anderson’s. Concerts last approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
Music in these family friendly concerts will include a wide variety of holiday favorites including Happy Holiday, White Christmas, Silver Bells, Mister Santa, Miracle on 34th Street and the upbeat concert closer, Holiday Road.
More traditional arrangements include Menotti’s exciting Shepherd’s Dance from Amahl and the Night Visitors as well as Chanukah Festival Overture. From Handel’s Messiah, the orchestra will perform For Unto Us and Hallelujah Chorus. In addition, popular contemporary selections highlighted are Polar Express Medley, Mannheim Steamroller’s Veni, Veni (O Come, O Come, Emmanuel), Snowy Mountain Holiday and Christmas Pipes.
A beautiful composition titled A Solitary Wish by American composer Brian Balmages will bring us closer to the spirit of giving and love associated with the Christmas season. Also included in the program will be a traditional carol sing-a-long.
Concert attendance is experiencing significant growth this year for the orchestra, and audiences of appreciative patrons are captivated by the dynamic and exhilarating performances that are presented. Also, get ready for a special treat! Talented orchestra students from The Culver Military Academy, along with their amazing director, Judith Goltz will be joining in for this concert. It’s going to be a night to remember!
The Northwest Indiana Rusty Strings Community Orchestra continues to expand and attract accomplished amateur musicians from the region. Rehearsals are typically on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:45 p.m. at Pines Village Retirement Community in Valparaiso, IN. Interested string musicians should be able to play at an advanced high school or college level, have an instrument in working condition and provide their own music stand. There is a particular need for string bass players. Concert music is available for download for each concert. There is a $40.00 session fee for each concert cycle, which includes 7-9 rehearsals and two concerts. Scholarships are available.
