In the current contemporary art world, where individualism often prevails, "Collision" offers a necessary counterpoint by emphasising collaboration, process over product, and the embrace of the unexpected.
"Collision", is an experimental and collaborative art workshop which will take place at Valletta Contemporary led by performance artist Charlene Galea. This initiative invites artists both art amateurs or pro professional, to bring their unfinished works and engage in a collective process of reinterpretation and co-creation. Participants are encouraged to present their pieces through unconventional and imaginative methods, such as performative storytelling, fictional backstories, or the use of props and costumes. The workshop aims to dismantle traditional artistic boundaries and foster a space of shared creativity.

Charlene Galea is a hybrid artist whose work explores the intersection of the body, performative identities, and contemporary spaces. Her live art is driven by a deep curiosity about life rather than virtuosic technique, particularly on the contrasts between online personas and physical realities. Her performances are multilayered, embracing multiple identities, each shaped by her sensitivity to space, text, sound, and movement, as well as her yearning to bring people together in shared experiences.
Drawing inspiration from both personal memories and contemporary digital narratives, her body functions as a prism, collecting, processing, and reflecting experiences back to her audience. Through her performances, she confronts societal restrictions placed on the body, challenging the viewer to reconsider traditional notions of art and consumption.
Charlene’s installation work defies superficial engagement, demanding attention and deeper immersion. Her politically charged messages are often conveyed in playful, humorous ways, with the aim of prompting complex questions rather than providing definitive answers.
With an educational background spanning Tourism, Beauty Therapy, a BA in Creative Direction for Fashion, and an MA in Digital Fine Arts, Charlene champions artistic freedom and seeks to foster an intimate connection with her audience both on social media platforms or in live spaces.
