The Wheel of the Year advances one notch forward, bringing us to, what is known as, ‘midsummer’. This is the time of the Summer Solstice where we reach the summit of day’s light before the sun submits to shaving moments off each subsequent day. It’s a time when early seedlings are bearing the fruits of lettuce, peas, and more garden gems. Many flowers are now in the midst of their transitioning choreography, performed with synchronized precision right on cue.
LITHA is a perfect time to embrace creativity, nature, garden glories and stories, abundance and fertile dreams, warmth, solar pleasures, gathering fires, and much more. So, to play upon this theme, our Litha celebration weaves together several of those themes with a creative and nourishing flair.
Our ‘Litha play date’ begins indoors printing cute muslin bags with vegetables stamps carved from fresh potatoes and carrots. This harvest of food and fun is fueled by your free spirited creativity - something LITHA endorses in droves!
While the bags dry, we will make individual herbal blends to stuff into them, and set you up for making a customized ‘Sun Tea’ to infuse over the next few days of steep daylight. Part symbolism, part convenience, making Sun Tea at this time of year is a perfect way to appreciate the virtues of the season sip by sip. Sun Tea embodies the wisdom to do things with slow intent for a delicious interweaving with life that allows us to savour more simple moments and celebrate just how much we can create wonderful things by ourselves without commercial intervention.
Finally, we will finish up outside around the fire (weather permitting), sipping on fresh herbal infused lemonade, and nibbling on sweet treats while drawing cards from the LITHA ORACLE (‘Sun Tea’ image above) and offering our dreams to the fire where they will be ignited and released into the sun-setting strata.
Please bring an outdoor chair, any required comforts for being outdoors, and a non-serrated paring knife.
