Join us as we dive into the mind body connection. An active discussion and training presented by Missy Wilt-Roland, BSW, M.Ed and Mirna Herrera, MA on the symbiotic relationship between mental health, nutrition, and fitness.
Mirna Herrera, originally from Nazareth, Israel, holds an MA in Music Therapy and a BA in Psychology and Musicology. After completing her internship at University Health (UH) in Kansas City, she became passionate about peer support and made significant contributions to the field. As Director of a consumer-run drop-in center, she received the Missouri Mental Health Champion Award for her work. She later restructured peer support services at UH, creating a dedicated department and piloting a career ladder for peer support teams in collaboration with SAMHSA and the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC). Mirna has expanded peer services in the community, including launching peer navigator programs in Kansas City public libraries. She has consulted with Mid-America ATTC, advocating for Naloxone and harm reduction, and trained organizations on trauma-informed care, drawing from her own experience living with PTSD. She also worked with the Missouri Credentialing Board as a trainer and assisted in developing various curricula for trainings and certification. Most recently, Mirna served as a regional behavioral health advisor for SAMHSA’s Region 7 office, focusing on peer support and recovery services both regionally and nationally
Missy Wilt-Roland, BSW, M.Ed is a dedicated mother, coach, and a certified personal trainer whose life mission is to help others. Missy played and coached basketball collegiately and professionally, named All-American 4 years in a row, and earned a spot at the Columbia College Hall of Fame. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social work, and a master's in education. Her combined 16 years experience working as a social worker and as a high-school teacher in various settings and capacities ignited her to pursue her passion for helping others to overcome their life challenges and to find their purpose through fitness, nutrition, and self love. After developing training programs for group classes and personal training sessions, as well as coaching and training athletes, she decided to make her dreams come true by opening her own gym in lees summit, MO. Phoenix Fitness was voted best in class in fitness centers, and Missy was voted best personal trainer in the area for multiple years. Missy shares her lived experience with loss and struggles, and her journey to mental health, to inspire and motivate others. Phoenix Fitness is more than a gym, it’s a community of supportive women and children who enter the gym every day to work on their physical health and strength, and leave empowered, happier, and inspired to rise up.
