Join the Texas African American Museum in celebrating Black Music Month with a free movie and popcorn.
June 7th featuring Scott Joplin - raised in Texarkana, Texas, is a 1977 biographical film directed by Jeremy Kagan and based on the life of African-American composer and pianist Scott Joplin. It stars Billy Dee Williams and Clifton Davis. Its script won an award from the Writers Guild of America in 1979.[2] Eubie Blake makes an appearance in the movie.
June 13th featuring The Wiz Live - A live production of the 1975 Broadway musical, "The Wiz," which put a modern spin on the classic "Wizard of Oz" tale with a cast of African-American actors.
June 20th featuring Thunder Soul - Alumni from Houston's storied Kashmere High School Stage Band return home after 35 years to play a tribute concert for their beloved band leader.
June 27th featuring The Winans Listening Party - Join Pastor Stanley Cofer for an evening of going down memory lane as we sing along, play along, and have a great time of fellowship with The Winans. Before Mary Mary, before Kirk Franklin, before Commissioned and Fred Hammond, there were Marvin, Carvin, Michael, and Ronald Winans. By any account, the most important group of the last 30 years in pushing the crossover of Gospel into both Soul and Pop radio, the Winans are now considered to be Gospel royalty.
