Featured Artist: Mollie Jones-
Nationally recognized award-winning watercolorist and workshop teacher, Mollie Jones works exclusively in transparent watercolor. A self-taught artist, she enjoys a passion for painting crystal, glass, silver, and anything reflective in nature. She lives and works in a red barn south of Tyler, Texas and shares her farm with 2 diva cats, sheep, and an abundance of flower gaedens.
Mollie is a member of the American, National, and Transparent Watercolor Societies. She holds Signature Ststus with Texas Watercolor Society, Louisiana Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society, Alabama Watercolor Society, Southwestern Watercolor Society, Society of Watercolorists, Wyoming Watercolor Society, and Watercolor Art Society of Houston. She is one of the US representatives in Italy each year for FabrianoInAquarello which brings 80 countries' top watercolorists together. Mollie was honored to be included in the published SPLASH 18 edition of the top 100 watercolorists in the US.
Artist Statement
In my transparent watercolor paintings, I strive to show how light, values, and the skill of drawing almost always ensures a successful painting for both me and those seeing my work. The love of drawing has always been important with my art, and I consider myself a representational realist in that realism is a must in my paintings. Beginning many years ago in pen and ink renderings of wildlife, I found that I saw things that others did not see, and was able to translate what I saw on paper. I have simply transferred this love of detail to watercolor. A pure transparency of watercolor is an absolute joy and pleasure. In addition, I found that if my painting doesn't contain reds in some form, it is no fun. When teaching, I tell my artists to paint what you love, and you'll always love to paint.
