Join artist Kristen Lese for the closing reception and artist talk on Friday, August 22nd from 6–9 p.m., at the TAC gallery. Lese will delve into “The Zürich 7,” her exhibition running from August 1 – 23, which unearths the untold stories of seven pioneering women who pursued medical degrees in Zürich during the 1860s.

Discover how Lese, a geologist, embarked on this artistic journey during the pandemic, transforming her historical research into a vibrant mixed-media collection. She’ll share the “gut punch” moment that led her to pivot from a virtual reality project to her current blend of painting, sewn paper, digital prints, and collage – guided by her unique background in mapping and quilting. Learn about the individual trailblazers like Nadezhda Suslova and Marie Vogtlin Heim, and how the majestic Swiss Alps symbolize the “compressional forces” shaping their remarkable lives. This talk offers a unique opportunity to explore the resilience, brilliance, and enduring legacy of these forgotten women in STEM.
