Join MOCA Toronto and Heritage Toronto in this unique joint offering of a historical walking tour and subsequent museum tour. Set within MOCA’s home neighbourhood - the Junction Triangle - the Heritage Toronto walking tour begins where art meets history exploring the fascinating legacies of the neighbourhood’s churches bridges “death-traps” and even a famous boxer. Through this tour attendees will learn of the area’s rich industrial history and recent gentrification and the ways in which this influences inspires and shapes Toronto’s visual identity.
Following the Heritage Toronto walking tour is a guided tour of MOCA’s current exhibition Shoes books hands buildings and cars by Margaux Williamson. Williamson’s work is heavily influenced by her surroundings and having settled in Toronto for the past two decades depicts imagery that pulls from Toronto’s scenery; painting scenes that draw from the intimate views and objects of her home studio bars city streets and the natural world around her.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about MOCA’s own history and placement within a heritage building once used as an automotive manufacturing plant and now as a space to make cultural and community connections.
