What better way to spend the Fourth of July than watching an 82-minute comedy with a plot that seems frighteningly relevant to the current political situation in the United States!
By the year 2176, a magnetic storm has degaussed all recorded history, causing such valuable documents as the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to be lost. Three time travelers, Adam-11 (David Cassidy), Chanel-6 (Olivia d'Abo), and Heinz-57 (Geoff Hoyle) are sent back to July 4, 1776, to retrieve America's heritage, but due to an unnoticed time machine malfunction, end up in 1976 instead, during the United States Bicentennial. Two good-hearted teenage friends, Tommy Sears and Chris Johnson (Steven and Jeffrey McDonald of Redd Kross), try to help the time travelers and comic hijinks ensue.
Directed by Lucas Reiner, THE SPIRIT OF '76 also features Leif Garrett, Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner, and Devo, as well as several era-appropriate cameos from others.
If you love the goofy humour of the Reiner family and the delightful McDonald brothers (Redd Kross), this is the movie for you. If you love watching me talk about my love for the Redd Kross Universe (RKU), then you should definitely attend!
