This August closes out the Bummer Summer. But we saved the best for last. An Italian invasion of Florida. Featuring killer monkeys, electric powered death motorcycles, John Saxton, lots of skin and gore. If you missed the entire summer program, make up for it and see this one!
*Primal Rage (1988)
When a reporter for a local newspaper in Miami sneaks into a research laboratory that carries out experiments on monkeys. Instead of a scoop he's bitten by a rabid monkey, infected by a virus that causes uncontrollable fury (sound familiar?) and spreads the infection in the nearby college, where mayhem ensures. Despite being filmed in Florida with an American cast. This has the feeling of Italian schlock all over it, with familiar players to back it up. Co-Written by Umberto Lenzi and starring Bo Svenson. Along with the strange tonal shifts and shocking violence you'd expect. If you haven't seen this slice of 80s sleaze, you're missing out.
*Nightmare Beach (1989)
After the leader of a local motorcycle gang is sent to the electric chair. He's reincarnated as a phantom motorcycle serial killer. Leaving clues that the chief of police framed him in order to send him to death row. And he strikes during Spring Break, in order to make his message heard loud and clear. An outrageous film that mixes beach sex comedy, slasher film and supernatural giallo. It's a car crash of film. But like any great car crash, curiosity makes you keep watching the madness on display.
