Interpreter Workshop: Interpreting in NA Meetings

Sally Horsfall Eaton Centre – 99 Gerrard St East, Toronto
This one-day hands-on workshop is designed for ASL-English interpreters, including both Deaf and hearing interpreters, who want to strengthen their skills in Narcotics Anonymous (NA) settings.
While AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA share similar values, this workshop will focus specifically on NA—its language, culture, and lived experience.
Presented by Merico Tesolin who is a Deafblind NA Member with lived experience in the program.

Hands On ASL! will coordinate registration and payment
25% of all proceeds will support Hands on ASL’s community fund, helping Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals access attend free ASL classes.
Limited to 12 participants — first come, first served.

Light refreshments will be provided.
Topics include:
- NA-specific language and spiritual concepts in both English and ASL
- Harm caused by unprepared or inconsistent interpreting
- Ethical boundaries for interpreters who are not in recovery
- A personal lens: Merico shares parts of his own recovery journey to deepen your understanding of how the program works
- Group discussion and hands-on examples
This is a community-led workshop, not affiliated with any interpreting agency or organization.

- Additional sessions may be offered if interest is high
- A Zoom version may be available in the future for those unable to attend in person
