25th Anniversary Screening!
The films are hot, but the Revue’s AC will be cranked for the films in this summer’s Heat Wave lineup.
Heat Wave at the Revue Cinema, a lineup of classic summer movies, gets heated on August 27th with a 25th anniversary screening of Steven Soderbergh's ERIN BROCKOVICH – with an introduction by We Really Like Her! co-programmer, EMILY GAGNE!
Based on the inspiring true story of a single mother who became a famous environmental activist, this award-winning drama digs into the water contamination scandal that rocked Hinkley, California in the early 1990s. When the street-smart Erin (Julia Roberts) starts working for lawyer Ed Masry (Albert Finney), she stumbles upon some shocking information that exposes the problematic practices of PG & E (Pacific Gas and Electric). Can this small-town fashion icon balance her newfound crusade for justice with caring for her kids and nurturing her slow-burn relationship with biker babe George (Aaron Eckhart)?
With its stirring plot and positively parched backdrop, Erin Brockovich will have you sweating and crying, often at the same time. It helps that Soderbergh and cinematographer Ed Lachman drown the film in sun-soaked shades of burnt orange and yellow. And then, of course, there is the red-hot performance by Roberts, who gives Susanna Grant's script the emotional gravitas it rightfully deserves.
As consumerism and corporate greed continues to erode our planet, Erin Brockovich feels more relevant than ever. So take a break from basking in the unnatural humidity and revisit this entertaining, yet inspiring tale of good triumphing over evil.
