ABOUT THE SHOW:
Merle Travis calls Thelonious Monk on his iphone to ask a question about music theory.
They agree to meet in Bogota for a strong cup of coffee and some empanadas.
An AI agent intercepts their conversation and starts singing the blues in an encrypted chat room.An engineer in Mumbai hears it and dances by the water cooler.
ABOUT ERIC ST-LAURENT:
Born in Montreal, Eric studied guitar and improvisation in New York City before moving to Berlin, where he spent a decade as a sideman to big and small names of the European music world. After re-locating in Toronto, he worked as a studio and live musician and dove into blues, country and music tech. This interest in art and technology has led to recent recordings exploring common ground between composition, electronica and various global music traditions. "El Choclo" is the follow up to "Darn, That Band" (2024) and documents a band that has now reached cruising altitude and settling in for a flight to very distant location.
