Curators' Circle 2025

Join us September 25th from 6:30PM–8:30PM for GOG’s 2025 Curator’s Circle hosted at the Urbanspace Gallery (401 Richmond Street West, Ground Floor, Toronto)!

Drawing from themes of cultural sovereignty in upholding collective expression and co-creating narratives, the event will inspire discussions on how curatorial practice can move toward shared authorship - examining the working relationship with artists, and the complexity in the notion of “community” - in order to foster greater relevance for visual arts in public life.

It is a dialogue centred on how curatorial work must respond to today’s complex realities. Curators will leave with ideas, questions and challenges that will help reframe how we hold space, tell stories, and serve the communities to whom these spaces belong.

Curators will have an opportunity to learn, to express their ideas, share their challenges, and come away with inspired and enriched to navigate complex questions in the opportunities and responsibilities their role embodies to impact audiences through art.

Remarks by Special Guest: Vice President & Executive Director, Programming and Special Events of Toronto Union, Syma Shah

Syma is responsible for overseeing and delivering Toronto Union’s programming vision. As a senior arts and cultural leader she has contributed to the revitalization of Union Station with Osmington Inc., since 2013. Syma’s passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility for all runs deeply in everything she does.
