Explore the Canary District through the lens of movement and migration. Once a bustling hub for Irish immigrants railway workers and travelers passing through the famous Palace Street School turned Cherry Hotel turned Canary Restaurant discover the landmarks of the Canary District that date back to the early 19th century and the stories they tell of connection and transition.
This tour was developed and will be led by Deena Shirkool. Deena is a recent graduate in archaeology. She currently works as an education interpreter for Early Canadian buildings or in a lab full of old pottery. As a 1.5-generation Iranian immigrant Deena became interested in the movement of people. Sheโs curious about how people's connection to the land changes over time. While she focuses on the ancient Middle East she loves sharing any heritage with others.
