Nick Dobler: The Underdog Story – From Seaman High School to Head Coach at Coffeyville Community College
A Proven Winner—Fast.

Supporting Coach Swafford & Giving Back to Seaman

What makes Nick Dobler’s journey even more meaningful is that he’s never forgotten where he came from. Born and raised in Topeka, he’s remained deeply connected to his roots—and especially to the Seaman football community.

Today, Nick is a proud supporter of Head Coach Jared Swafford and the current Seaman program. He believes strongly in what Coach Swafford is building and wants to give back in a real way.

On May 30th, Dobler will return for a Seaman Football Alumni Dinner, where he’ll share his story, celebrate the program that helped shape him, and continue building a bridge between past and present Seaman football generations. The event is a chance for former players, coaches, and community members to come together—not for fundraising, but for fellowship. As Nick puts it:
“Feed ’em, entertain ’em, and if someone wants to support the program, we’ll have that conversation—but this is about relationships first.”

His Journey

Nick Dobler’s rise from an undersized, overlooked high school football player to becoming the head football coach at Coffeyville Community College is a true testament to perseverance, grit, and belief. His story inspires not just athletes, but anyone who’s ever been told they weren’t good enough. Through heart, hustle, and vision, Nick Dobler carved out a path to success that few predicted—but many now admire.

Early Days at Seaman High School (Topeka, KS)

At Seaman High School, Dobler wasn’t the biggest player on the field—but what he lacked in size, he made up for in toughness and leadership. By senior year, he helped lead the Vikings to a sub-state appearance and earned 5A All-State honors. His relentless work ethic became the foundation for a remarkable football journey.

College Football Career

After high school, Dobler started at Independence Community College, where he quickly became a standout defensive back. He earned KJCAA All-Conference honors in both 2006 and 2007 and was awarded the John C. Pittman Award as the school’s top male athlete.

He continued his career at Kansas State University in 2008 before transferring to Northeastern State University (OK) in 2009. There, he became a 2-time Lone Star Conference All-Conference player and an All-Academic honoree, helping lead his team to a Lone Star North Division championship in his senior season.

Coaching Career: A Track Record of Immediate Success

Dobler’s coaching career has been marked by one consistent theme: winning—and winning fast. He didn’t just break into the coaching ranks—he stormed through them.

In just his second year at Kilgore College in Texas, Dobler was promoted to Co-Defensive Coordinator, and that same year, helped lead the team to a conference championship. He went on to spend nine total seasons at Kilgore, capturing four conference titles and building one of the region’s most respected defensive units. His rise wasn’t slow and steady—it was fast and undeniable.

That trend continued when Dobler returned home to Kansas to become the Defensive Coordinator at Coffeyville Community College. In just his second season, the Red Ravens won a conference championship, again with Dobler calling the shots on defense.

Then, in November 2023, Dobler was named the 22nd Head Coach in Coffeyville football history. True to form, he wasted no time making an impact. In his very first season as head coach in 2024, he led Coffeyville to yet another Conference Championship—making it his sixth career conference title, and solidifying his reputation as one of the fastest-rising and most effective coaches in the junior college game.
