National Moth Week is an annual event held each July that promotes moth education, appreciation, and conservation across the globe. Join in at Treehaven on Saturday, July 19th from 8:30-9:30 PM to discover moths that call the Northwoods home! As night falls, we'll head out to a "light sheet"—a large, illuminated curtain that serves as an attractive place for moths to land—and discuss fascinating features of moths as we observe and identify any visitors. You'll have the chance to view these nocturnal wonders up close as you explore the many different ways you can continue mothing in your own backyard, as well as contribute your moth sightings to science!
Meet at the main entrance (double doors with Treehaven sign). If parking in the main lot is unavailable, additional spaces will be open in the maintenance lot to the left of the fork. This program begins at sunset, so a majority of time will be spent in the dark. After a brief walk to the light sheet, we will remain stationary for the rest of the program. Attendees are encouraged to bring a folding chair, flashlight/headlamp, mosquito repellent, mobile phone, and/or camera. We will explore mobile apps that can be used for identification and sighting uploads, and the light sheet allows for great photographs of any moths that visit us!
Cost: Free! Registration will remain open through the start of the event. Please reserve a spot for each attendee. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
