PA Firefly Festival Inc. in partnership with the US Army Corps Engineers at Tionesta Lake are hosting a Locals' Night at the Tionesta Lake Marina on Tuesday, June 24 from 9-11pm. This is STRICTLY intended for Forest County residents, camp or business owners and Seasonal Campers from Tionesta Lake Campground for a Firefly Tour at the Tionesta Lake Marina. ONLY THOSE WITH A FOREST COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA ADDRESS or a Tionesta Lake SEASONAL CAMPSITE MAY APPLY. Pre-registration is REQUIRED and limited to the first 30 adults/teens to apply. This is a night to view many species of fireflies, and get a sense of why the fireflies attract so much world-wide attention to Forest County. For safety and security of the participants and protection of the fireflies, the attendance is limited to the first 30 adults (ages 12 and over) who register. Children under 12 years old are welcome, and do not count towards to the limit of 30. However, be advised, this is not recommended for children under 5 years old, due to the late hour, and the dark forest, which can be disturbing for young children. Parents, please consider this before registering and bringing your children.
We will meet at the Tionesta Lake Marina at 9 pm and walk the spillway road to known Synchronous firefly sites. Guided walk participants should be in good physical condition and able to walk unassisted. Those with mobility issues or who use wheelchairs, will remain at the parking area to observe any firefly activity in the surrounding forest edges. This is a rain-or-shine event. Come dressed for the weather and walking in the forest. Sturdy shoes, boots, light colored clothing, long sleeves and pants are recommended, and NO flip flops or lighted shoes. Flashlights are not necessary, but must have a red filter if used. Bring a walking stick or trek poles; they are very important in the dark forest. Bring a camp chair if you wish to sit. Please apply any bug repellent before you arrive. No pets.
