The Woolsey Fire in 2018 remains the largest wildfire in history of the Santa Monica Mountains by acreage. The National Park Service, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, partner agencies, and NPS volunteers collaborate to study and investigate the fire's impacts and long-lasting effects on the ecosystem and its inhabitants. With the use of wildlife camera traps, biologists gain a better sense of what lives, breathes, and zooms through the Santa Monica Mountains and nearby mountain ranges.
Visit the Thousand Oaks Grant R. Brimhall Library during operating hours in June to see highlight wildlife research images from the Woolsey Fire Recovery camera project on display. Take a look at research data including images of wildlife behavior rarely seen in-person, photos of collared animals, and site comparisons over the years.
Join Miroslava Munguia Ramos, Wildlife and Volunteer Program Technician with the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, for an engaging presentation featuring powerful wildlife images from long-term monitoring research after the Woolsey Fire. She’ll discuss the scope of the research, explore the collaborative efforts behind the scenes, and share insights into the inspiring recovery of the region’s diverse ecosystems.
This presentation will be hosted inside the Thousand Oaks Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room. Free RSVP strongly recommended.
