Unity Garden Closing Ceremony – A Day of Gratitude, Healing & Renewal
Saturday, October 18 | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
As we prepare Mother Earth for her winter blanket and time of rest and rejuvenation, our CommUnity Garden family is invited to gather in ceremony, gratitude, and celebration.
This season’s closing carries profound meaning. The City of Thorold will be gifting the Unity Garden with Indigenous trees around the site—a living legacy of reconciliation, renewal, and respect for the land. Together, we will welcome our new tree relatives in a sacred planting ceremony.
Tree Plantings Include:
3 Paw Paw trees (6 ft tall)
10–15 Birch trees
10–15 Sugar Maples
10–15 White/Black Cedars
1 Eastern White Pine (15–20 ft, to be spaded in on Friday, Oct. 17)
Join us as we:
Welcome and plant our new tree relatives and honour Jackie and Oliver
Prepare Mother Earth for her winter rest
Harvest medicines and celebrate the close of another season
Share in a CommUnity Gardeners potluck meal (if you can) and celebrate the love shared throughout the year
Please bring your gardening tools, your drums, your voice, your love, and your positive energy. Dress for the weather—this is a rain or shine gathering.
Important:
Those participating in the tree planting are asked to arrive at 9:00 am.
Please see the attached Tree Planting Waiver from the City of Thorold—fill it out and bring it with you on Saturday. Extra copies will also be available on site.
Together, we will celebrate life, honour our wonderful Elders, and give thanks to Mother Earth for her endless generosity. 🧡
