------------------------------------------------------------
Our fight is your fight. Both Unit 1 (Instructors, Course Coordinators, Teaching Assistants, Marker-Graders, and Lab Demonstrators) and Unit 5 (Faculty of Education Instructors) are standing together on three key issues that resonate across the labour movement:
Reasonable Class & Seminar Sizes: because quality education depends on manageable workloads. They want to pack more students into our in person and virtual classrooms - and without any compensation, which hurts both workers and students.
Fair Hiring Practices: because preference in graduate student hiring is seniority-busting, plain and simple. Protecting seniority means protecting fair hiring, protecting good jobs, and protecting the quality of education for students. It also means protecting our PhD students who might unfairly be put into positions that they cannot handle or that would impede the completion of their graduate studies.
Fair Wages: because the cost of living is climbing and our work deserves respect. The employer wants to hold the line while the cost of living keeps climbing. They want more from us but won’t give us more.
When employers try to divide us, solidarity is our strength. When CUPE members show up together, we show employers and the community that these issues matter not just to us, but to all workers.
We’ll have hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, and vegetarian options on the grill. But more importantly, we’ll have a united voice demanding dignity and fairness. Bring your flags, your members, and your solidarity. PLEASE JOIN US!
Let’s make it clear: Niagara CUPE locals stand shoulder to shoulder.
