Leo Popplewell

Leo Popplewell, praised for his "full-blooded commitment" and "delicious dancing grace" (The Telegraph), is a cellist whose exceptional talent has earned him widespread acclaim as a chamber musician, recitalist, and orchestral principal. As the founding cellist of the award-winning Mithras Trio, Leo has enjoyed international recognition, with the trio winning top prizes at prestigious competitions including the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition and the Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition. With an impressive recording schedule, their debut album EROS was released to critical acclaim in 2023. Leo’s passion for orchestral repertoire has also flourished, having been appointed co-principal cellist of the London Mozart Players in 2022, and he has appeared as a guest principal with renowned ensembles such as the London Philharmonic and Hallé. With a repertoire that spans both the classical and contemporary, Leo continues to captivate audiences with his artistry, intensity, and musical brilliance.
