Ladies Who Cast : An Introduction to Fly Fishing - Thermopolis

Ready to dip your toes into the world of fly fishing? Join us for Ripple Outside’s Level 1 Fly Fishing Clinic—a relaxed, confidence-building weekend designed to get you river-ready.

We’ll be guided by Elisa Daniels. She’ll walk us through Gear 101, how to navigate your local fly shop, and help you build solid skills with hands-on casting instruction and personalized coaching.

Day 1 will be at the cabin on the Big Horn. Saturday is all about the basics - knot tying, entomology, gear and flies. We’ll fuel up with lunch, have casting practice and then head to the fly shop where we will have a private tour. Sunday is all about fishing. We will head to the Big Horn River to put those new skills to work (weather and river conditions permitting).

Don’t have gear? No problem. We’ve got you covered. All you need is a Wyoming fishing license + conservation stamp, which you can grab online or pick up at the shop during class.

• Let’s Talk About It: From being a woman in the outdoors to what to expect on the water—bring your questions and stories.
• Fly Fishing Fundamentals: Gear, flies, rods, fly boxes, knots—yes, all the good stuff.
• Casting Practice: Hands-on instruction so you feel solid with your cast before hitting the river.
• Fly Shop Field Trip: Learn how to read the fishing report board and navigate the shop like a local.
• River Readiness: How to read water, basic entomology (aka bug stuff), and best practices for fish handling.
• Time on the Water: We’ll fish the Yellowstone together and apply everything you've learned (weather & river levels permitting).

What to bring:

• Your own gear if you have it (it’s great to learn on your own setup!)

Meet your guide - Elisa Daniels. Elisa is a high school counselor in Thermopolis Wyoming. She lives with her husband and two daughters on the banks of the Big Horn River north of Thermopolis. Elisa began fly fishing in 2013 after completing school and moving back to Thermop. Living on the Big Horn allowed her the opportunity to begin her fly fishing journey close to home, grow her skills and expand from there. She has fished many different waters around Wyoming. Most of her trips take her off the beaten path into the backcountry, from the Washakie Wilderness, to the Bob Marshall. One of her favorite trips was a week in British Columbia exploring the Elk River. For Elisa, Fly Fishing has become a passion and opportunity to spend time with her family while introducing her girls to the outdoors.
