Drum Birthing with Edwina Staniforth @TheRoost

The drum is an extension of you, your magic and your wild spirit. It also connects you to the ancestors, Mother Earth and her heartbeat.
This is why so many people love birthing drums. It gives us the opportunity to journey to the spirit of the drum, honour the animals and trees that make up the drum and beater and work in sacred space to create something powerful and unique. Something that has its own song, voice and spirit. It can also be a challenge, a journey of the soul and a massive achievement when you go home with a beautiful drum.
During the day you will be working with Red deer hides on an ash drum hoop that can either be round or oval. You will be guided to paint a small image on the hoop with artist Peter Yankowski, waxing it and lacing it in a traditional and ancient way. We will also be making drum beaters.
We will be working in sacred space and honouring the animals and wood used in the drum throughout the day with a short ceremony to finish to bless the drums.
The total cost is £280 for a 16-inch or 14-inch drum or £290 for a 14 x 18 inch oval drum. Larger drums or a 12 inch smaller drum can be made on request. The class size is limited to 8 people and an unrefundable deposit of £100 is needed to secure your place. You can pay in a few instalments if you like. Once the hides and hoops are ordered the payment is not refunded due to the high cost of materials.
