Juegos de Cariño

Juegos de Cariño (Games of Affection) blends Puerto Rican bomba, ballroom culture, and contemporary dance to reimagine sports through a queer lens. Performer Edrimael Delgado creates a universe where traditionally masculine sporting objects lose their expected purpose and instead gesture toward new ways of playing and being.

This choreographic work—developed with Rafael Cañals—rebuilds the structure of basketball from a queer reality, challenging our relationships to gender, play, and identity. Rather than showcasing physical prowess or manhood, Juegos de Cariño becomes a space of healing, reflection, and joyful rule-breaking. It is a sporting spectacle born from a desire to finally get off the bench and into the game—on one’s own terms.
