Monday, August 4th- sink your teeth into two summer 90’s vampire flicks sizzling with bloodlust for Sacrilegious Cinema’s excursion into the decades’ horror westerns reigning supreme in an era of genre drought and Scream imitations- presenting a celebrated entry from the time period partnered by an under seen treasure to tantalize your fancies.
At 8PM, we join vampire hunter Jack Crow in his mission to eradicate these deadly bloodsuckers’ nests throughout the New Mexico desert, honoring his covenant with the Catholic Church to exterminate the race altogether. Crow meets his match in head vamp Jan Valek (portrayed by the captivating albeit fearsome Thomas Ian Griffith) possessing powers beyond any previous predators that came before him- now Crow and his gang must stop Valek before he succeeds in becoming a day walker, marking him as invincible once the relic meets his grasp and vampires are no longer quarantined to dwell in the darkness. This western battle of good versus evil, seamlessly woven by John Carpenter remains a hidden gem in the annals of horror cinema- featuring a compelling performance by James Woods as the savage vampire slayer and a supporting role by the magnetic Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks). John Carpenter’s VAMPIRES (1998), responsible for keeping the master of horror out of retirement, remains a diamond in the rough amidst its more popular counterparts. Come out on a whim and take a bite. ⛪️🍷📿🏹🌵🩸
Then, at 10PM, take a leap across the border from Texas into Mexico, and arrive at the Titty Twister, accompanied by fugitive brothers Seth and Richie Gecko, as Tarantino and Rodriguez enact a sly switch and bait from a true crime hostage scenario to a blood soaked bar of Aztec vamps. Salma Hayek emerges as the seductive Santanico Pandemonium in her iconic snake dance, while famed FX artist Tom Savini plays the legendary biker and his crotch pistol, Sex Machine. Come on in, we’re open FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996). In the first of one of many collaborations between Tarantino and Rodriguez- and of among the most renowned- the duo merges a stern neo noir thriller with a detour into a supernatural horror western complete with a lair of bloodthirsty vamps. 🏜️🇲🇽🛕🚐🐍🔫
