The Tampa Jazz Club and Hillsborough College (formerly HCC) will kick off their latest season of Sunday afternoon jazz concerts on August 24, at 3 PM. And lovers of the Great American Song Book will be in for a treat when trumpeter James Suggs brings his “James Loves George – the Music of George Gershwin” to the Mainstage Theatre at Hillsborough College’s Ybor City campus for this first show. These Sunday concerts are part of the HC Visual & Performing Arts Series. The venue is located at 1411 E. 11th Avenue in Tampa.
This marks the debut of “James Plays George” in Tampa by the talented and in-demand horn player. His previous tributes to jazz luminaries Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong have played to packed houses all over the Bay Area. The music of George Gershwin is knit into the fabric of our everyday lives through timeless songs such as “Summertime,” “Embraceable You,” “Our Love is Here to Stay,” and many others. James will be joined by Bay Area favorites Alejandro Arena on bass, Patrick Bettison on keyboards, and Jean Bolduc on drums.
Be sure to join us for some fascinating rhythms and singular interpretations of the Gershwin songbook when “James Plays George” unveils on a Sunday afternoon in Ybor.
