Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale follows the Crawley family and their loyal staff as they enter the 1930s at last. A high‑society scandal erupts when Lady Mary’s personal life becomes front‑page news, tarnishing her reputation (such as it is, by now) and threatening the entire household with social disgrace.
With financial pressures mounting and society’s scrutiny intensifying, it becomes difficult to imagine Mary taking over the estate as has been planned. And that’s before Cora, Countess of Grantham’s wayward brother Harold (played by Paul Giamatti) shows back up at their wide and beautifully appointed doorstep. As a new generation begins to step forward, ready to embrace fresh developments and lead Downton into its next era, the old guard gets the final bow they deserve, and the entire estate must continue to reckon (remember how much they fretted over the installation of a telephone?) with the unstoppable changes the future brings.
