This Monday, Peaks & Pints opens the abbey gates to celebrate Belgian National Day, where beer is a sacrament and yeast is a god. We're tapping into the divine— Westmalle, St. Bernardus, Dupont, Girardin, and more—alongside a few Belgian-inspired blessings from the Northwest. Expect goblets, gilded bubbles, and at least one existential conversation about Brettanomyces. No speeches, just reverence.
On July 21, 1831, Belgium officially broke from the Dutch and crowned Leopold I as its first king. Since then, Belgian National Day has stood not only for independence, but for cultural devotion to the finer things: surrealist art, inexplicable fashion, world-class frites, and beer so elegant it deserves its own cathedral. Every July, the streets of Brussels echo with fireworks, parades, and the clinking of chalices—because if you’re going to honor a nation’s soul, it should probably involve a Tripel.
We call it Belgian Independence Pour—an all-day homage to the sacred fermentations of the Low Countries. We’ll be pouring six Belgian beers on tap, from Trappist legends to saison sages, plus a curated partnering flight for those who want to sip across the spectrum of abbey alchemy. Come swirl, contemplate, and toast to a nation whose finest exports are patience, bubbles, and brewers in robes.
