About the event

Occupation NOT Demolition
---LISMORE AND MULLUMBIMBY OCCUPIERS FACE EVICTION---

------HUNDREDS OF EMPTY HOMES SET FOR DEMOLITION------

We're going back! Last week we witnessed the NSW gov failing to present ANY evidence because they thought no one would oppose the evictions! They therefore adjourned for 2 weeks and will be back next Tue 22nd April.

This court date focuses on the empty homes in the Northern Rivers, with occupied houses and community centres on trail for eviction and demolition from the NSW gov.

WE WILL GATHER AT 9AM AT SYDNEY SUPREME COURT TUE 22 APRIL. We call for them to be relocated not demolished, and that they be allowed occupation until relocation.

After the catastrophic 2022 floods in Lismore and surrounds, the NSW Reconstruction Authority bought 836 homes as a bid to move people to safety. Many people were displaced and moved into temporary housing, their cars, slept rough or moved away. Those that sold their homes were told they would be up for relocation. DEMOLITION WAS NEVER IN QUESTION!

Facing a critical housing shortage, squatters have occupied some of these empty houses, creating a safe haven for locals and visitors alike. Premier Chris Minns has launched shameful attacks in the media against the residents, igniting real violence in the community, with local far-right thugs attacking people on Pine St., damaging cars parked on the street, and launching fireworks at buildings.

Given the scale of the housing crisis, even local police have refused to evict these houses. Now, the state government has turned to Supreme Court of NSW to issue notices of eviction against 10 homes.

We oppose the idea that they must stand empty until demolition. Flood victims and affected people must be able to find housing and live safely for free, instead of being demonised by those with money and power. We stand in solidarity with the residents of Pine St. Lismore, and call for them to be allowed occupation until relocated!”

Hear directly from residents facing eviction and what's happening with existing secure housing stock in NSW. Stand in solidarity for housing rights and proper flood recovery and those facing eviction!
