Blue plaque unveiling: Maurice Dobson and Fred Halliday
Maurice and his partner Fred Halliday met during WW2. In the 1950s they returned to Darfield where they lived together as an openly gay couple and ran a shop together.
Fred died in 1988, followed by Maurice in 1990. Maurice left his shop to the people of Barnsley to be turned into a museum.
In 2000 Maurice got his wish and the Maurice Dobson Museum and Heritage Centre (Darfield Museum) opened.
Marking 25 years since the museum opened, Maurice and Fred are to be remembered with a blue plaque. Join us at 4pm - We'll share more details nearer the time.
