This month’s New Bands Night is a celebration of the wealth of Hip-Hop and Soul talent we have in South London. We’re fitting four artists onto the bill this time!
7.30 - Miami Mae
8.15 - Osaze & Marcus
9.00 - KRS
9.45 - Liam Mera Kai
Miami-Mae is a singer-songwriter whose music blends smooth, soulful sounds with honest, emotionally raw lyrics. Inspired by the introspective style of Mitski, the soulful warmth of Lianne La Havas, and the gentle intimacy of João Gilberto, her songs feel both tender and bold. With a voice that soothes and stories that stay with you, Miami-Mae creates music that embraces vulnerability with quiet strength.
Osaze & Marcus are a young music duo from London, consisting of young rappers and brothers 'Osaze' and 'Marcus'. They are also songwriters and producers. Osaze & Marcus' music is a blend of modern rap and Afrobeats, due to their Nigerian heritage. The duo have released several songs and have been doing so since 2019. Their incredible talent at a relatively young age has led to them winning awards, being played on radio stations such as BBC Radio, and going on shows such as Britain's Got Talent.
KRS is a boundary-pushing artist who refuses to be confined to one single genre. Rooted in a deep love for Hip Hop and Neo Soul, his music blends a wide range of sounds creating a sonic experience that is both familiar and refreshingly original.
Liam Mera Kai - Born in Johannesburg, raised in South London then studied at Nottingham University, singer-songwriter/rapper Liam Mera Kai delivers a fusion of alt hip-hop, neo-soul and alt R&B, occasionally layered with elements of UK dance and garage. Weaving mellow, jazzy UK hip-hop beats, introspective rhymes and impressive vocals, this South London newcomer proves he’s just as comfortable spitting bars as he is singing.
Often fusing a mellow, laidback sound with uncomfortable themes, the young artist plans to evolve his music alongside his experiences. Certain subjects run deep in Liam's music, with expressions of love, admiration, overthinking and doubt being common themes. Whether addressing excitement, confusion or pain, the artist attempts to provide one major consistency: relatability. "The aim is to combine soundscape and lyricism to encourage feeling but also thought” he explains.
