Step back in time and uncover the hidden history of Sutton’s vanished places of worship. Join us for a guided walk and talk exploring “The Lost Churches and Chapels of Sutton”, starting at the Welsh Chapel, Lind Road (originally built as a Primitive Methodist Chapel) and finishing at St Nicholas Church in Sutton town centre.
Date & Time: Walk begins at 11:00 am and arrives at St Nicholas around 12:30 pm.
Starting Point: Welsh Chapel, Lind Road, Sutton, SM1 4PJ.
End Point: St Nicholas Church, Sutton.
Along the way, discover the stories of the churches and chapels that once shaped the community, and learn how their presence influenced Sutton’s character and growth.
Both ends of the route feature special exhibitions:
At the Welsh Chapel: Exploring Sutton New Town’s Architectural Heritage.
At St Nicholas: Stones and Stained Glass.
We suggest bringing a packed lunch to enjoy as a picnic in the peaceful grounds of St Nicholas at the end of the walk.
The event is free but participants will be invited to make a donation the charity Away from it All.
