Tentative Agenda:
- July. Dress to be indoors and outdoors.
- Training will include Theory & Hands-on Exercises related to Basic Searcher 1. The training will be led by experienced Ground Search and Rescue volunteers.
2025 Basic Searcher 1 Schedule:
Session 1: Feb 5
Session 2: April 2
Session 3: July 2
Session 4: Oct 1
GFGSAR meets the first and third Wednesday of each month. The first Wednesday of each month is typically for hands-on training exercises while the third Wednesday of each month is for business meetings. Volunteers must contribute 40 hours per year (minimum) to be an operational Member in Good Standing. Members who contribute 200 hours in a calendar year are eligible for a Federal and Provincial tax credit of $6000 (min). Hours may consist of training, meetings, fundraising, outreach, and searches.
New members will be provided a Membership Application Package upon arrival. Please identify yourself to a member of the Executive to receive a Membership Application Package. This package will include the following:
- Membership Application
- Welcome Letter
- Letter from the Minister of Public Safety
- Request for Criminal Record Check
- List of Minimum Required Equipment (you can accumulate items from this list over your entire career as a GSAR Volunteer—you don't need all items in order to begin volunteering)
