About this Event:
Facilitated as a group coaching model Tuning in to Kids™ is conducted under the license of the University of Melbourne...
Tuning in to Teens™ is a parenting program that guides parents in ways to help teens learn to understand and regulate their emotions.
The program teaches parents how to help their teens develop emotional intelligence. Studies suggest Emotional Intelligence may be a better predictor of academic & career success than IQ.
Tuning in to Teens™ involves watching video material, group discussions and exercises, role plays, reading the information, and home activities where you try out different ways of responding to your child’s emotions.
Participating parents are encouraged to share experiences and ideas within the group and group leaders may use these as examples to explain and teach the skills of emotion coaching.
The Process of the Intensive:
The typical facilitation of the Tuning in to Teens™ program is one session per week for six weeks. The Poppet Centre has found that many busy families find this extended commitment a challenge, so we have created an intensive 4-step model that works better for our client group.
Here's how it works...
We find this approach is more flexible for busy families, and we are more able to adapt the coaching content to suit specific family dynamics.
Meet the Facilitators
At The Poppet Centre, we don’t believe in cookie-cutter parenting advice. Instead, we bring together experience, expertise, and a touch of irreverent wisdom to guide you through the wild and wonderful world of raising resilient kids. Leading this event are three seasoned professionals - Shane Warren, Laurence Catzel, and Kait Luker - each with a unique perspective, a wealth of knowledge, and a shared passion for helping parents navigate life’s ever-changing family dynamics.
First up, we have Shane Warren, a psychotherapist, coach, and facilitator who has spent over 30 years diving deep into the mechanics of the human mind. With a background in theology, philosophy, and psychology, Shane started his career in youth welfare, which means he’s spent decades witnessing firsthand what works (and what doesn’t) when it comes to raising happy, emotionally resilient children. These days, he juggles private practice rooms across Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Singapore, Taipei, Seoul, and Hong Kong, all while being a devoted dad. If you’re looking for someone who combines science, strategy, and a bit of common sense in equal measure, Shane’s your guy.
Then, there’s Laurence Catzel, a woman who can navigate a Parisian café with the same ease she handles a classroom full of energetic kids. Splitting her time between Sydney and Paris, Laurence’s background in corporate management, education leadership, and business across Europe and Australia gives her a global lens on parenting challenges. She understands the delicate balancing act between work, cultural expectations, and family life, because she’s lived it. When she’s not facilitating parenting programs on resilience and communication, she’s running outside-of-school-hours care programs or simply being a hands-on parent herself. If you’re struggling to juggle it all, Laurence is here to remind you that it’s not about balance - it’s about making it all work in a way that makes sense for you.
Finally, we have Kait Luker, whose blended expertise in creative arts and medical science gives her a completely different approach to parenting and resilience. For over 30 years, Kait has been facilitating arts-based learning programs for children, adults, and elders, helping people tap into creativity as a tool for emotional growth. At the same time, her coaching work with individuals facing life-changing diagnoses has given her a unique understanding of how to build resilience, even in the toughest moments. She knows that raising strong, emotionally intelligent kids isn’t just about structure and strategy—it’s about creativity, expression, and learning how to turn challenges into opportunities.
