The St. Louis River Alliance is excited to host our annual volunteer manoomin/wild rice planting on the St. Louis River! This year we will be seeding on two days at two different locations. In order to accommodate as many people as possible, we are requesting attendees select ONE of the following planting dates.
**Tuesday, September 9 from 8-1 p.m. Allouez Bay in Superior, launching from Wisconsin Point Lot 2 or Bunge Dock in Superior (location will depend on wind/weather)
**Friday, September 12 from 8-1 p.m. Kingsbury Bay in Duluth, launching from Spirit Lake Marina (121 Spring Street, Duluth)

Volunteers will help distribute up to 750 pounds of wild rice seed at each site by canoe, supporting the ecological and cultural restoration of this important waterway. Space is limited to 10–12 volunteers per day, so early registration is encouraged.
The Alliance will provide canoes and PFDs for those who do not have their own. Please note: kayaks are not suitable, as each canoe must carry a 50-pound bag of seed. Prior canoe experience, with the ability to steer from stern using j-strokes and other techniques, is highly recommended.
We will send a follow-up email to all registered volunteers closer to planting date with further details. For questions, contact Alyssa at
