This Pride month, Sunderland Lit & Phil dives into the hottest genre gripping the book world: Romantasy! Whether you're a fan or just curious, everyone is welcome.
Auburn Langley, Founder and Host of Sunderland Lit & Phil Society, will be joined by Waterstone's Yolanda Maria Smith, Romantasy Book Club's Emma Kerr, Author and Bookseller Emma Whitehall, and New York Award-winning audio drama expert Jay Sykes, to talk everything Romantasy, Love in 21st Century Britain, and Queer Representation.
In an age of Dating Profiles and Swiping Right, we see a yearning for devotion, connection, and a love that defies the odds. And dragons, of course. Mythical beasts and finding true love are a tale as old as time, yet this new era of Romance and Fantasy is determined to integrate our modern values and expectations, with some rather steamy scenes for added inspiration.
Join us on June 19th and you'll hear what our experts have to say, enjoy a performance from a local writer (winner of our monthly competition) and join our audience Q&A (optional- and opinions without questions also welcome).
Sunderland Lit & Phil Society is a not-for-profit organisation hosting events and discussion groups, recent topics include: Music City: The language of Sunderland, The Future of the Publishing Industry in Sunderland, and Building Community in the 21st Century.
